KARACHI, Sept 18: An accountability court on Tuesday adjourned hearing in a NAB reference the 6/2005 against Adam Khan Jokhio till Sept 22 as two prosecution witnesses were produced without original documents.

According to the prosecution, accused Adam Khan Jokhio had purchased 30 acres in the former District West of Karachi. The accused with the cooperation of two other accused, posted as Mukhtiarkars and Tapedars, committed a fraud by changing 30 acres to 330 acres and the same record was entered in the revenue records.

The charges against the accused were framed on Oct 8, 2005.

Accumulation of assets

The hearing of a reference in the Accountability Court no III against Gul Hasan Sand has been adjourned till 17 Oct, 2007. The accused, Gul Hasan Sand, was presented on bail. Due to the non-arrival of the lawyers, the court did not frame charges against the accused, who had allegedly accumulated assets beyond known sources of income.

According to the prosecution, Gul Hasan Sand had joined Agriculture Engineering and Water Management Department, Hyderabad as a junior clerk in 1977 and through promotions rose to the post of director.

The accused during his tenure from 1988 to 2003 acquired 10 immovable properties in his own name, in the name of family members by spending Rs2,724,028 and also spent Rs2,012,000 on the construction of six properties.

An examination of income and expenditures revealed that the accused and his dependants owned, possessed or had acquired rights or title to assets worth Rs13,469,999 (present market value Rs15,563,574) disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The accused also holds irrevocable power of attorney regarding some assets.

Fraud

The Accountability Court no IV has adjourned the hearing of a reference (20/2007) against Mohammad Ishaque Soomro till Sept 21. The accused is involved in fraudulent encashment of three cheques amounting to Rs6,621,000.—PPI
