KARACHI, Sept 17: Two people were wounded on Monday when miscreants opened fire during a protest over a daylong power breakdown at Patel Para.The Jamshed Town police said residents of Patel Para and its neighbourhood took to the streets in the morning, pelted vehicles with stones and burned tyres as the power supply remained disrupted in the vicinity for over 24 hours.
Police said the protesters had set fire to a police kiosk near the Labella chowk.
Witnesses said unknown people started shooting as a large number of protesters gathered on the road at around 4.15pm. They said two men sustained bullet wounds and were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Hospital sources identified the injured as Aamir, 18, and Khalid Khan, 21. They said the two had received bullet wounds on their limbs and were taken away by their associates before the police arrived.
Sub-inspector Akhtar Hussain of the Jamshed police station said the situation returned to normality when the protesters dispersed and retuned home a little before Iftar.
Man shot dead
A 60-year-old man was shot dead and another wounded on Monday in Baghdadi in the ongoing Lyari gang warfare.
The two were taken to the Civil Hospital, where the dead was identified as Pir Bux and the injured as Hameed Tana.
Area people said the victims were sitting in Street 3 of the Eidu Lane off Tannery Road when the rival gangsters opened fire on them.
The Baghdadi police said the gangsters clashed over a monetary dispute.
