QUETTA, Sept 16: At least 10 people were killed and 16 others injured when a passenger van collided head-on with a truck near Kalat on Sunday.

When the Khuzdar-bound passenger wagon coming from Kalat, reached Bancha area, its driver lost control and the vehicle collided with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction.

“Three people were killed on the spot as the wagon was completely smashed,” a senior police officer of Kalat said, adding that seven injured people died in Kalat and Surab civil hospitals.

Police had to use cutters to take the bodies of victims out of the wrecked vehicle.

Police said the wagon was carrying passengers beyond its capacity. Most of the people killed were sitting on the roof of the van, police said.

The condition of five of the injured people was stated to be serious. They had received multiple head injuries, hospital sources said.

Seven of the people killed in the accident were identified as Mohammad Akram, Mohammad Javed, Ramzan, Javed Iqbal, Mohammad Bilal, Saleh Mohammad and Ahmed Jan.

Kalat police have registered a case against the truck driver.
