School staff unpaid for two months

TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 15: The staff of the Government Jafria Girls High School of Housing Colony No 1 has not been given salaries for the last two months.

The school was upgraded from the middle to secondary level. As a result, it was deleted from the list of middle elementary schools, but no official was given powers to draw staff’s salaries. Only school headmistress could draw her salary because she had the powers to do so.

ARRESTED: City police arrested more than 30 people for selling prize bond chits in various areas of the town.

In a crackdown, which continued through Friday night, police also seized computers, fax machines, prize bond chits, cash and record books of the accused. However, police let some of them go after bargains.

STRIKE: Transporters’ strike on Gojra-Khiderwala Road entered second day on Saturday.

They are protesting alleged torture on a bus driver over a freight dispute near Chak 247-GB and demanding that the accused be arrested immediately.

KIDNAPPED: A woman was allegedly kidnapped from her house in Chak 264-GB on Saturday.

Rajana police said Sultan, Allah Yar, Suhra and an unidentified man from Chak 375-JB of Mochiwala, Jhang, allegedly kidnapped Akhtari from her house when her husband, Riaz, was away.

Police said the accused also took away gold ornaments and cash from Riaz’s house.
