HYDERABAD, Sept 9: Eminent scientists and research scholars have stressed the need for allocating more funds for research into chemistry and analytical chemistry, the braches of science, which they said are important for human health.

The speakers from the universities of Pakistan and South Africa, Iran, India, Greece and Bangladesh were reading papers at the concluding session of a three-day international seminar on “Analytical Sciences” organised by the National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry of the University of Sindh on Saturday.A well known scholar from Greece, Dr. Miltiades I. Karayannis, stressed that the scholars should concentrate on research and creating more linkages between the research institutes.

He proposed that the scholars who held important posts should seek financial resources to continue research work and recommended that they should help resolve problems and actively participate in the programmes of higher education and research.

Dr. Karayannis said that the seminar would prove to be a milestone in the promotion of analytical chemistry and appreciated the hospitality and arrangements made by the Centre and the university for the international moot.

The vice-chancellor assured the scholars that the Higher Education Commission would allocate more funds for carrying out research activities and organising seminars and conferences.

Prof O Yavuz Ataman from Turkey said that the seminar was a memorable event for the scholars and they enjoyed wonderful cultural diversity. He stressed the need for more collaboration between the chemical societies of Pakistan and other countries of the world for scientific development.

Prof. Mujtaba Shamsi from Iran said that participation in the seminar was a great privilege and pleasure for him and his delegation. Applied research and this seminar had provided a great material to the scholars of analytical chemistry, he said.

Dr. Din Mohammad, president of the Chemical Society of Pakistan, said that the society was available for all the scholars and assured that the society would help the scholars participate in seminars and conferences to present their research work.
