KARACHI, Aug 30: The cracks in the ruling alliance are becoming more visible with every passing day and people have started distancing themselves from the ruling PML and making contacts to rejoin the PML led by Nawaz Sharif.

This was stated by PML-N Sindh chapter acting President Saleem Zia. Talking to Dawn, he said that it was high time for all political parties to play their role in strengthening democratic norms and culture by practising the politics of principles.

Without referring to the PPP’s position of holding talks with Gen Pervez Musharraf in a bid to foil the imposition of a state of emergency or another martial law in the country, he said it was the lawyers’ movement which had culminated in restoring the supremacy of the constitution, the rule of law and independence of the judiciary.

He said the days of declaring emergency or enforcing martial law were over as people were determined not to allow anyone to trample democratic culture.

The PML leader said that Nawaz Sharif was returning home despite all the barriers in his path to bring a permanent end to ‘democracy in uniform’ and the masses were waiting to launch a decisive struggle under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif for emancipation from dictatorship.
