KARACHI, March 13: Sindh Minister for Industries Dewan Mohammad Yousuf Farooqui on Wednesday inaugurated a supply of subsoil water to Block F of Site and expressed the hope that the industrialists would redouble their efforts to lead the country to attain the status of a true industrial nation.

The Block F, consisting of about 125 industrial units, was without water and the industrialists used to meet their requirements by purchasing tanker water. As a result, these units were not able to perform well and a danger of their closure was looming large.

The Sindh minister said Karachi is the hub of national economy and since Pakistan joined the war against terrorism, its economy also started picking up. However, this was not being liked by enemies of Pakistan who were out to weaken our march towards stability.

He said a Malaysian company would soon set up a treatment plant in Karachi for which negotiations had been held with them. He said the supply of treated water would greatly help overcome the water problem being faced by the industries in SITE.

Referring to the point raised by the SITE Association chairman about the rate of utility services, the minister said the government was privatizing the KESC after which the menace of massive theft could be checked and due relief provided to the essential sectors using this utility.

On a demand, the minister assured that encroachments outside the industrial units, especially canteens, would be removed.

He asked the District Police Officer present on the occasion to have a close liaison with the industrialists for the maintenance of law and order.

He said that our country would progress when our industries would progress and this ultimately would be translate into prosperity to the nation.

Earlier, the managing director of Site Limited, Dr Khawar Jamil, and SITE association chairman Arshad Vohra spoke on the occasion.—PPI
