KARACHI, Aug 22: A bandit was shot dead while two of his accomplices fled in what police described as an encounter in the Defence Housing Authority on Wednesday night.

Clifton SP Azad Khan said three gunmen entered a house in Phase I, on the 11 East street, as soon as the family members drove in.

A watchman of a neighbouring under-construction house witnessed the robbery bid and promptly informed the police on helpline 15.

Subsequently, police mobiles arrived at the spot and surrounded the house. The bandits scaled into a neighboring house in an attempt to flee. An exchange of fire between the bandits and police ensued during which a suspect was killed. The two other outlaws escaped, Clifton SP said, adding that one of them was also believed to have sustained a gunshot. Police found two pistols and the looted valuables on the killed bandit. His body was sent to the Jinnah Hospital for a postmortem examination. He had not been identified till the filing of this report.
