ISLAMABAD, Aug 21: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday said that Pakistan would take all possible follow-up steps to implement the decisions taken at the Pak-Afghan Joint Peace Jirga held recently in Kabul.

He was chairing a high-level meeting at the Aiwan-i-Sadr. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz was also present.

The president expressed satisfaction at the holding of the jirga and expressed the hope that involvement of tribal and religious leaders from both sides of the border would help promote peace and security and check illegal border crossings.

He said Pakistan firmly believed in a strong, stable and prosperous Afghanistan which was not only in the interest of the Afghan people but also in the interest of Pakistan and the entire region.

The president praised efforts of the interior and other ministers for making the jirga a success.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz gave an overview on the Pak-Afghan economic cooperation and assistance being given by Pakistan in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind, Minister for Culture Ghazi Gulab Jamal, NWFP Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Orazkai, Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmad Ghani and other senior officials also attended the meeting.—APP
