LARKANA, Aug 14: A transporters’ association having support of social welfare bodies and local chapters of different political parties has called for a wheel-jam strike in Shadadkot on Wednesday and Thursday in protest against rising robberies in the area.

This was announced by Shahdadkot Goods Transporters Association president Akbar Brohi on Tuesday after a meeting of representatives of the association, social welfare organisations and political parties.

Mr Brohi said that the vegetable market would remain shut indefinitely and a 12-member committee, headed by him, would ensure success of the strike.

According to him, the meeting noted with concern that the incidence of robberies on the roads between Shahdadkot and Ratodero and Garhi Khairo had increased and the vehicles plying on these roads had become unsafe.

The vehicles carrying vegetables to the city market were being frequently looted and private cars and jeeps were also not spared, he said, adding that the situation had badly affected trade in Shahdadkot.
