ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam, who is currently serving as director-general at the headquarters, has been appointed as Pakistan’s ambassador to Italy.

The announcement was made in a statement issued here by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.

This will be Ms Aslam’s first ambassadorial assignment and she is expected to proceed to Rome by next month.

Ms Aslam, who joined the Foreign Service in 1984, has previously served at Pakistan’s diplomatic missions in Paris, The Hague and New Delhi. Her last posting abroad was in India at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.

She returned to the headquarters in 2001 and has worked in various capacities, including director Americas, director Foreign Secretary’s Office, director-general Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) and director-general United Nations since then.

Tasnim Aslam holds two postgraduate degrees, one in International Relations from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Boston and the other in Business Education from the Punjab University in Lahore.
