KARACHI, Aug 7: The bail applications of civil rights campaigner Syed Mohammad Iqbal Kazmi in the dud cheques cases could not be put up for arguments in the court of a judicial magistrate, South, as the accused was produced by police in the court when the court time was already over.

The court of a judicial magistrate, South, Ghulam Murtaza Baloch, had already deferred the date and fixed Aug 9 for arguments on his bail applications.

Mr Kazmi had submitted the bail application to the courts on Aug 4 in three cases against him. He has also submitted another application to the court of JM-1, East, Shamsuddin Junejo, in the other three cases.

Both courts had issued notices to the district attorneys for appearance in the respective courts to initiate arguments on the bail applications.

JM Shamsuddin Junejo fixed Aug 10 for the hearing and issued a notice to the district attorney to attend the court for arguments on the bail application.

Iqbal Kazmi was arrested on June 12 at his Korangi residence by police in cases of cheating.

Three case against him were registered by police in the Al-Falah police station and three in the Darakhshan police station.

All the cases are of the same nature that the cheques he issued in his business deals with different parties were dishonoured and they had lodged the cases against him in 2006.

The police, he said, had earlier shown only five cases against him registered at the Al-Falah and Darakhshan police stations, while another case against him was kept secret.

He said the sixth case was shown when the court sought the record of all the cases again him. He said the last case about a dud cheque for Rs22, 000 was registered at the Al-Falah police station on June 20 by a transporter, Abdul Hakeem.
