5 policemen hurt in blast

GUJRANWALA, Aug 2: Five traffic police personnel were injured when a bomb went off near the city traffic office on Thursday. The policemen were going to the Gondlanwala Adda office.

The injured were identified as Mohammad Saleem Khan, Mohammad Ashref, Mohammad Jamil, Nawab Khan and Fiaz Hussain.

Police said the bomb had been concealed in a nearby cart.

The sound of the blast was heard in far-flung areas. Window- panes of nearby buildings were smashed.

Deputy Inspector-General (operations) Khadim Husain Bhatti and TPO Rehan Masood visited the blast site along with a police contingent.

Bomb disposal personnel said it was a powerful bomb of about one kilogram.

They said that the police personnel survived because they were away from the place where the device had been planted.

Police have formed raiding teams for arresting the culprits.
