ATTOCK, July 27: All students of class-V to VIII will be promoted to the next grade on the basis of internal assessment and without appearing in annual examinations, which were earlier postponed in the wake of teachers’ protests, it has been learnt.

The special secretary schools Punjab has issued an order in which the heads of educational institutions functioning in all districts of the province had been directed to promoted the students to next higher grades immediately on the basis of internal assessment.

For the award of internal merit scholarship 2007-08, special examinations for aspiring students of class-V and VIII would be arranged at district level by the executive district officers (Education) concerned in the mid of September after publicity.

Earlier, like other districts of Punjab, the annual primary and middle standard examinations were also postponed in Attock district by the Punjab education department on May 29 in view of the violent disturbances that surfaced after the teachers boycotted invigilation duties to press the government for their demands primarily concerning perks and privileges.

As many as 28,000 candidates of primary and about 26,000 of middle level examinations were affected due to the postponement of their examinations.

However, about 54,000 students of both classes would benefit from the recent directive. But the authorities did not explain the position of over 15,000 private students of both standards.
