KARACHI, March 9: A six-year-old girl and three men fell victim to reckless driving in the city on Saturday.

In Korangi, a recklessly-driven water tanker killed a motorcyclist, Shahid Husain Zaidi, aged 28, near the Rahimabad traffic intersection, the police said. Shahid was resident of Shadman Town near Sakhi Hasan. The police failed to arrest the tanker driver.

A six-year-old girl died and her father and a woman were injured when a minibus they were travelling in overturned in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

The police said that a minibus of route G-19 (JE-9837) overturned due to speeding near the Met office roundabout in Sachal police limits. Seema, aged six, died on the spot. Her father, Zakir, and a woman, identified as Shamshad Begum, were injured. The driver of the minibus escaped. The police claimed to have impounded the minibus.

A 65-year-old man, Qamar Khan, was crushed to death beneath the wheels of a minibus of route D-1 (JE-6182) on Manghopir Road in SITE. Qamar was resident of Pathan Colony. The police claimed to have impounded the minibus and arrested its driver, Asif.

A minibus conductor died when he fell down from the moving vehicle in Samanabad.

The police said that Fayyaz Gul, aged 15, was standing on a footboard of the minibus of route F-11 (JE-2361). Fayyaz, resident of Landhi, lost his balance and fell down from the minibus in Samanabad. He died on the spot. The police claimed to have impounded the minibus and arrested its driver, Saeed.

CARJACKING: Fourteen vehicles — seven cars and an equal number of motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Saturday, the police said.

Six cars were hijacked in Clifton, Landhi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulistan-i- Jauhar, New Karachi. One car was stolen in Defence.

Seven motorcycles were hijacked in Preedy, Civil Lines, Model Colony, New Town, and North Nazimabad.

The police also claimed on Saturday to have recovered eight stolen motorcycles (STE-8818, NF-1339, LHW-7742, KAL-2560, KAG-180 and MHA-2000) in the city.

KILLED: Two men and a woman were killed in the city on Saturday.

A man shot his mother to death in Quaidabad in a domestic dispute, the police said. Saeeda Bibi, aged 40, divorced Umer Wahid and married Sher Mohammed some months back. Since her second marriage, she had been living with her husband in Quaidabad with her two daughters by her first husband. Saeeda had three daughters and three sons by Umer Wahid.

The police said that Saeeda was making preparations for the marriage of one of her daughters, but her sons and the former husband objected to it. Her son Sarfaraz came to her home in Quaidabad and shot her to death.

A retired bank officer was found dead with his throat slit in his Samanabad home.

The police said that the killers of Ghulam Sarwar, aged 62, also got away with cash, gold jewellery and other valuables. It appeared to be a robbery and the bandits might have killed the man on resistance. However, the police quoted Ghulam Sarwar’s son Kashif as expressing suspicion that his in-laws were behind the killing of his father.

A man was shot dead in SITE area on late Friday night, the police said. The victim had been identified as Sher Mohammed, the police said, adding that he, with his family, had gone to meet his sister, when the incident took place. A case against unknown killer/killers had been registered.
