KARACHI, July 20: The official launch of DawnNews took place on Friday afternoon, coinciding with the Supreme Court’s decision on the presidential reference filed against Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

The channel, an English-language television news network, had started test transmissions on May 25 this year.

It has since provided timely, accurate and credible information to viewers at home and abroad, says a press release issued by the head office on Friday.

“From reporting on day to day events to covering the Lal Masjid crisis and revealing the extent of the devastation caused by the floods in Balochistan, DawnNews reporters have been out in the field providing news coverage of events as they unfolded.” The channel has bureaux in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta and Peshawar, with studio facilities in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including digital satellite news gathering (DSNG) capability and broadband global area networks (BGANs), the channel has the capacity to provide live transmission from remote areas via satellite, thus enabling comprehensive and prompt news coverage from across the country.

The Director News and Current Affairs of DawnNews, Azhar Abbas, said: “We are not only reaching across Pakistan wherever other channels are, we are also reaching out to more than 30 countries worldwide on satellite. We are the face of Pakistan.”
