ISLAMABAD, July 19: The by-election for National Assembly constituency NA-249 Karachi-XI will be held on August 25. The seat became vacant when Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) resigned from the lower house.

According to the by-election schedule announced by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Qazi Muhammad Farooq, the returning officer (RO) will issue a public notice on July 21, inviting nomination papers that can be filed with the RO on July 27 and 28.

These will be scrutinised on July 30 while the last date for appeals against the RO’s decisions to accept or reject nomination papers is August 6. The appeals will be decided by the tribunal by August 9.

August 10 has been fixed as the last date to withdraw candidature and the revised list of candidates will be published on August 11.
