ISLAMABAD, July 14: The Lal Masjid complex needs to be barricaded so that no organisation could rally around it to provoke public protests over the recent bloody operation, the capital police said on Saturday.

The area had been cordoned off since June 3 by the security forces, but interestingly a notification in this regard was issued after the completion of the military operation.

According to the notification issued here on Saturday, information has been received that some suspected “miscreants” and activists of proscribed organisations are either present in Islamabad or may be trying to sneak into the capital city to incite people on the Lal Masjid issue.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad Zafar Iqbal, under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, has notified and designated certain parts of the Sector G-6 that would remain inaccessible to the public for next seven days. These out of bound areas are:

On the western side of the mosque - Municipal Road from street No. 105 of Sector G-6/1-4 to street No. 34 of Sector G-6/1-3.

On the northern side of the mosque including the Ministry of Environment and the Capital Development Authority’s Estate Office.

On the eastern side of the mosque - Garden Avenue from Street No. 54 of Sector G-6/4-1 to street No. 61 of Sector G-6/4.

The southern side of the mosque, excluding the Youth Hostel building, Aabpara Community Centre and the hockey ground.

The step has been taken to avoid any unlawful activity, to secure the lives of the people and to ensure peace in the area.
