Third seed Alamzaib of NWFP who on Wednesday ousted fancied Waqar Mahboob in the first round, fell to Raza Yaqoob of Punjab in just over half an hour at the quarterfinal.

Raza unleashed fine array of strokes, smartly combining nicks and drop shots to defeat Alamzaib 9-7, 9-3, 9-1.

Local player and fourth seed Muhammad Naeem was eliminated by Zahir Shah of the NWFP. Naeem went down in straight games 9-5, 9-4, 9-6 during the 47-minute encounter.

Top two seeds from Punjab - Shoaib Hasan and Farzan Rasheed — showed no mercy while handing out crushing defeats to their respective opponents.

Shoaib dropped just one point in the first game while routing Naveed Alam of Sindh 9-1, 9-0, 9-0. Farzan's took just 17-minutes to demolish Riaz Ali of Navy 9-2, 9-0, 9-5.

Farhan Zaman, Sheikh Saqib, Danish Atlas and Nousherwan advanced in the last four round of boy under-17 competition. Danish of NWFP was taken to four games by Awais Khan of PAF before cruising into the semifinal.—APP
