HYDERABAD, July 5: City Taluka Nazim Javed Jabbar on Thursday presented Rs446.545 million budget for 2007-08 for the taluka municipal administration (TMA) of city.

The TMA's revenue break-up shows that the taluka will receive Rs272.614 million from the government as its share in octroi tax, get Rs7 million under social development services programme and Rs100,000 under sanitation grant from district government.

The taluka will receive Rs28.023 million in taxes, Rs7.610 million in fees and Rs15.350 million and Rs1.165 million in other receipts. The capital income includes Rs13.825 million as arrears, Rs92.458 million of sale and profit and other capital income of Rs7.5 million.

The taluka’s expenditure of Rs446.545 million includes development works of Rs78.975 million, establishment charges of Rs286.129 million, Rs69.69 million for contingencies, Rs3.810 million for charged and expenditures. The unforeseen expenditures stand at Rs1.5 million and Rs1.8 million has been allocated for grants and scholarships.

The revised estimates of 2006-07 stand at Rs273.701 million as against expenditure of Rs272.701 million, showing a saving of Rs1 million.

The taluka nazim said in his speech that the budget’s volume was Rs40 million more than the last year's, mainly due to improvement in recovery.

He said that high mast towers had been installed at the city's roundabouts and a large amount had been spent on the construction of small drains.

Mr Jabbar said that the city would establish modern slaughterhouses. Out of Rs78.975 million development budget, Rs10 million would be spent on roads and streets, Rs10 million on small drains and Rs6 million on the purchase of new lights, he said.

The other expenditures, he said, would include Rs2 million for employees’ financial help and Rs2 million each for provision of motorbikes and loans to employees. He informed the council that the city had appointed 250 sanitary workers. The major chunk of the taluka’s development funds was generated from contracts and rent, he said.

The convenor adjourned the session to July 11 for debate on the budget.
