ISLAMABAD, July 2: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Monday said the government was striving to promote education with an aim to meet the global challenges in the field of science and technology.

Addressing the first Convocation of Foundation University, a project of Fauji Foundation at the Jinnah Convention Centre, the prime minister enlisted the various steps his government has taken for the promotion of education at all levels.

“Access to education is basic right of every individual and gives the people a voice in decisions affecting their lives. It enhances human capabilities, creates opportunities for individual progress and social mobility”, the prime minister said.

The government is making a strategy to improve the quality of education as well as overcome gender, rural-urban and regional imbalances so that every one should get knowledge and prepare themselves for the modern day challenges.

He said the most critical difference between rich and the poor nations today is the level of education and the quality of the human resource.

He said the thrust of the strategy is to improve the quality and access to higher education, particularly science and technology that directly contribute to economic development.—Our Reporter
