SIALKOT, June 26: Tehsil Nazim Imtiazuddin Dar has ordered demolition of 37 ancient buildings which had already been declared dangerous.

He told newsmen on Tuesday that the dilapidated buildings were situated at commercial and thickly populated areas of the city.

He said these structures could collapse any time during rains.

The nazim said the owners did not vacate the buildings despite repeated requests and notices in this regard. He said the final decision had been taken to avert any untoward incident during rainy season.

OUTAGES: The electricity supply to Daska city’s localities of Wahab Masjid, Altaf Garha, Jamkey Road, Muhammadpura, Islampura, Thathiyaraan Bazaar, Main Bazaar, Sambrial Road, Subedar Bazaar and adjoining areas remained suspended for several hours due to fault in transformer on Tuesday.

It is reported that the low capacity transformer went out of order on Monday afternoon which was repaired after four hours. Later, the transformer repeatedly developed fault and repaired for several times during the night and day.

When contacted, XEN Nisar Ahmad Khan said Gepco officials were fully aware of the situation and were making sincere efforts for early redressal of consumers’ grievances. He said the old electricity cables and transformers would soon be replaced. — Correspondent
