KARACHI, June 25: Justice Sajjad Ali Shah asked a deputy registrar of the Sindh High Court on Monday to secure the medical record of a patient who died at the Aga Khan University Hospital on Aug 14, 2006.
A damages suit instituted by the widow and five children alleged that Mr Shamsi, 41, was diagnosed with intestinal obstruction on Aug 2, 2006, and a consultant at the hospital decided to perform a surgical operation. The surgery was, however, delayed for eight days due to which he developed serious complications resulting in his death on Aug 14. The plaintiffs demanded Rs75.5 million as damages.
Advocate Nasir Maqsood contended that the record of the deceased patient had not been furnished by the defendants despite repeated requests. Observing that the relevant information should not be withheld, the court appointed Deputy Registrar (Judicial) Mueenuddin Ahmad as commissioner for obtaining the record and asked him to submit a report on June 29, the next date of hearing.
BAIL GRANTED: Justice Yasmeen Abbasi of the Sindh High Court on Monday granted bail to an accused involved in street crimes against a surety of Rs200,000, PPI adds.
Babar Ghulam was arrested by a team of the Anti-Dacoity and Robbery Cell on July 14, 2006 in the Saddar area following an FIR lodged by Wasal Qamber at the Saddar police station. He alleged that the accused along with absconding co-accused Farzand alias Dada had snatched his mobile phone, Rs1,500 and other valuables near the Jinnah Hospital on July 7, 2006.
The SHC's single bench after hearing arguments of the defence counsel allowed the bail application and directed him to furnish a surety of Rs200,000 at the Nazir office.
