KARACHI, June 22: Top seed Vinod Das recovered from 2-4 down in the decisive set to impose defeat on Syed Zuhair Raza in three-set thriller to claim men’s singles title in the second STA development series tennis tournament on Friday.

Vinod was home 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 in nearly two-hour duel in the final played at the PN Karsaz courts.

Junior international Zuhair who is Pakistan No 1 in U-14 had captured juniors U-17 singles and men’s doubles in company of his brother Abbas earlier in the day. The men’s doubles was not part of ranking as only two pairs entered the event.

Playing his third consecutive final of the day in scorching heat against Vinod, young Zuhair went 1-0 up taking the opener 6-0. However, he had cramps and taking full advantage Vinod made it 1-1 winning the set 6-2. Zuhair surged 4-2 in the decisive set but could not maintain due to pain and surrendered 4-6.

In morning, he tamed Omer Shahid 6-0, 6-2 to grab juniors U-17 title.

Omer had some consolation as he annexed boys U-15 crown beating Abdul Rehman 6-4, 7-5.

The boys U-13 title went to Nameer Shamsi who handed a crushing 6-1, 6-1 defeat to Shahbaz Khan while Imran Mooraj rallied to edge past Talha Zubair 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 to win boys U-11 title.

The pair of Talha Saeed/Abdul Rehman beat Hasham Khan/Omer Shahid in three sets to land boys U-15 doubles title. The final which remained unfinished due to poor light on Thursday was completed on the concluding day. The former were home 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.

Seher Khawaja, as expected, stamped her authority when she got the better of Eman Malik 6-2, 6-2 to win ladies singles event.

Syed Zuhair Raza bt Omer Shahid 6-0, 6-2.

Boys U-15 doubles:

Talha Saeed/Abdul Rehman bt Hasham Khan/Omer Shahid 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.

Ladies singles:

Seher Khawaja bt Eman Malik 6-2, 6-2.

Men’s doubles:

Syed Zuhair Raza/Syed Abbas Raza bt Mustafa Jamal/Farhan 6-3, 1-6, 6-0.

Men’s singles:

Vinod Das bt Syed Zuhair Raza 0-6, 6-2, 6-4.
