KARACHI, June 20: Through a telemedicine link, medical professionals of a private sector teaching hospital will now be able to suggest treatment to a patient in Kabul, Afghanistan, while operating out of Karachi.
The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) was formally linked on Wednesday with a paediatric hospital that it manages in Kabul under a partnership between the French and Afghan governments.
Using modern technology and communications links, the AKUH medical experts would get the CT scan and X-ray images for diagnosis, interpretation and treatment purposes at Karachi, said a press release of the hospital.
Meanwhile, President of the Aga Khan University (AKU), Firoz Rasul, held the telemedicine link as a milestone, saying that for the AKUH, access to all sections of society had been crucial from its beginning. Now, he said, the expertise and knowledge available in Karachi could also benefit people in Kabul.
E-HEALTH: The Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister for Information Technology, Mohammad Noman Saigal, said that e-health facilities would be made available in all the districts of Sindh, adds PPI.
Presiding over a meeting attended by IT and health department officials on Wednesday, he said the two departments would collaborate to make functional telemedicine technology through an e-health system in all the districts very soon.
IT Director Mohammad Yousuf told the adviser that residents of the interior of Sindh would be able to get medical prescription from specialised doctors without moving to cities.
Mr Saigal instructed the officials to link all EDO health offices to all major hospitals in the province.
