KARACHI, June 18: Trials to select two Sindh Under-19 teams for the National Junior Hockey Championship commenced at the Hockey Club of Pakistan (HCP) Stadium on Monday.

Forty-five boys appeared in the trials which will conclude on Tuesday, chairman selection committee and former international Jan Mohammad said, adding that two Sindh junior teams, consisting of 18 players each, will be selected for the national juniors’ event, to be held in Quetta from June 24.

The trials on Tuesday will be held at the UBL Sports Complex at 9.00am, a spokesman of the Sindh Hockey Association (SHA) said.

Selection committee members — Iftikharuddin, Abdullah Talat Ali, Gulfaraz Khan, Dr S. A. Majid, Javed Iqbal and Saleem Rao — also watched the trials.

Besides the juniors, the seniors’ trials also started at the HCP with 22 players reporting for the trials to continue on Tuesday. Sindh seniors’ team will take part in the All Pakistan tournament being held in Azad Kashmir from June 23.—APP
