SUKKUR, March 3: Firing between police and bandits continued in Gora Teghani on Sunday on the fifth day of a massive operation against outlaws which was launched by Sukkur region police on Thursday last.

The operation has been launched to take up the possession of Garo Teghani which according to police is a safe heaven for hardened criminals and has remained no-go area for police for the last couple of years.

AIGP, Sukkur region, Nayyar Husnain told Dawn the operation would continue till the clean-up of Garo Teghani in which gangs of notorious dacoits, Bachloo Teghani, Ibrahim Sandelo and Ahmedoo Jagirani were thought to be hiding.

The police has adapted a new operation strategy. In the past operation activities used to take place during day time and police contingents returned from Gora Teghani in evening.

However, this time 1,500 police commandos have laid siege to the entire area in which dozens of dacoits are hiding and they are firing launchers and throwing hand grenades on the police.

Consequently two policemen have been injured and it is believed two bandits had also been killed and several others injured but the outlaws have fled with the bodies and the injured in thick woods.
