KARACHI: Lawyers slam TI leader

Published June 8, 2007

KARACHI, June 7: Several Sindh Bar Council members have taken Tehrik-i-Istiqlal President Rehmat Khan Wardag to task for alleging that Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry was responsible for the May 12 killings in the city.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, SBC members Mustafa Lakhani, M. Sadiq Hidayatullah, Muhammad Aqil, Salahuddin Gandapur, M. Khalil Dogar, Saathi M. Ishaq and Fahim Riazuddin asked the TI chief to withdraw his statement and apologise to lawyers.

They said the killings were not caused by the CJ’s arrival but by the absence of law and order. Not a single person was killed during his visits to Peshawar, Lahore and other places.
