HYDERABAD, June 5: Tail-end growers of Khairpur Gambho irrigation sub-division have criticised the non-availability of water in channels of Jarkus, Khoski, Banghar, Sangi, Aailpur, Bago and Khairpur which will destroy the crops.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Tuesday, Taluka Nazim Tando Bago Pir Hamid Ali Shah, Manzoor Chandio, Bhooro Khan Laskani, Aslam Kaimkhani and others said out of 100,000 acres of land in the command area of Khairpur Gambho, only 10,000 acres could be cultivated and even these were being destroyed due to artificial water shortage.

They alleged that 100 per cent cultivation was being done in Nasir Irrigation Division through direct outlets. They demanded closure of illegal watercourses and an inquiry by a Supreme Court judge.

They said even during water rotation programme, influential landlords were supplied water by the irrigation department. They appealed to the Sindh governor, chief minister and irrigation minister to order an inquiry matter and ensure water supply to tail-end growers.
