KARACHI, June 1: District Coordination Officer Javed Hanif has stressed the need for a proper budgetary allocation for the Municipal Services Department in the next fiscal year so that the department could effectively manage solid waste collection, its transportation and disposal.

He made this observation after a briefing given to him about the municipal services department.

The DCO was informed that there was no proper budget allocation for the department, which was created in the middle of the current financial year, and the department was being functioning through alternative arrangements.

The DCO said that modern techniques should be applied for lifting and transfer of garbage from all over the city to landfill sites.

He hoped that with machinery and vehicles, which were procured at a cost of Rs720 million, the overall state of cleanliness in the city would improve soon.
