KARACHI, March 1: At least one fisherman was killed and four other seriously injured when six gun boats of the Balochistan Levies allegedly opened fire on a fishing boat, registered in Sindh.

Chairman of the Fishermen’s Cooperative Society Commodore Syed Tayyab Naqvi told APP here on Friday that the ill-fated boat, Al-Fahad, registration No 14493-B, was fishing with a 16-member crew on board about 400 meters away from the shore between Gwadar and Jiwani on February 27, when the incident occurred.

The FCS chief said he had reported the incident to the Dock Police for taking immediate action against those responsible.

The deceased fisherman has been identified as Amirzada, son of Aslam Khan, of Sawat, while the injured are: Alhamdu Lillah, Jawar Ali, Noor Talat Khan, and Khairun Nisar. The injured have been shifted to the Civil Hospital, Karachi.

Commodore Naqvi appealed to the Balochistan authorities to conduct an “inquiry” into the incident.

He said there were reports that two other fishing boats also came under fire. “They are on the way back home,” he added. — APP
