NAUSHAHROFEROZE, May 21: Over 200 people, including the relatives of a rickshaw owner who is reportedly a victim of police excesses, staged a demonstration against SHO Abdul Fateh Dharejo of the Kamal Dero police station in Kandiaro on Monday.

The protesters marched from Mohbat Dero Naka to Kandiaro where they observed a token hunger strike for five hours. They also staged a sit-in at Star Chowk for half an hour.

The protesters complained that upon the behest of an influential person, SHO Dharejo had arrested rickshaw owner Amir Bux Kalhoro, snatched Rs5,000 in cash from him and lodged an FIR against him under section 13-D pertaining to arms ordnance. After bail was granted, they said, SHO Dharejo was threatening to implicate Mr Kalhoro in false cases.—Correspondent
