KARACHI, May 21: Residents of Chanesar Goth are spending sleepless nights and some of them have to spend their nights away from their houses owing to a fierce battle under way between two gangs of drug peddlers.

They resort to trading fire almost every night for quite some time, the residents complained on Monday.

They wondered that the area police had never intervened to stop the armed clash.

SHO Mehmoodabad police station, confirming the report, said that the two gangs, one led by Aziz Lasi and the other by Shaukat, were engaged in a long-running battle and would indulge in trading fire frequently.

A resident of the Goth, requesting anonymity for fear of reprisal, said it was quite obvious that police wouldn’t act against the gangs as they get the protection money from these peddlers.

In the past, some police officials had tried to launch an operation against the gangs but they had miserably failed.
