KARACHI, May 20: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Sunday refuted the allegations levelled by the Pakistan People’s Party leaders at a press conference earlier in the day, and asserted that the MQM lost 14 workers in the bloodshed engineered by opposition parties.

Talking to Dawn, MQM MPA Faisal Subzwari said that PPP leaders Sherry Rehman and others could not deny the fact that people around the vehicle she was driving near the COD Bridge on May 12 were armed with lethal weapons. They attacked MQM workers and damaged their vehicles.

“We are thankful to Ms Rehman for, at least, admitting that the vehicle shown in the MQM footage was her,” he added.

Referring to Ms Rehman’s call for disbanding militant wings of all parties, Mr Subzwari categorically stated that the MQM did not have any militant wing.

He said people, on TV channels, watched only one rally on May 12 that was of the MQM… no opposition party took out a rally that day, adding: “our peaceful rally was ambushed at 12 points by opposition militants.”

He said the MQM would hold a press conference on Monday to show other side of the picture.
