MINGORA/MANSEHRA, May 18: Thirteen people were killed and at least 70 injured when a heavy windstorm followed by widespread rain lashed Swat and Mansehra districts on Friday, police and hospital sources said.
In the city of Mingora and adjoining areas, six people, including two children, were killed and 60 wounded, many of them seriously. The strong winds uprooted trees and electricity poles in different areas, disrupting power supply.
Emergency was declared in Mingora hospitals where the injured are being brought from different areas. Hospital sources said the deaths occurred mainly due to incidents of house collapse.
In the Mansehra district, seven people were killed.
A man and a woman were killed in the Barkund village and another man died in the Geedarpur village. In Khwajgaan, a child and a man were killed and two men were killed in Sherpur and Chittidiri.
Ten people were injured when a mosque collapsed in the Bari Khankhel village, which was also hit by hailstorm.
Scores of other people were also injured in the district, who were taken to the Mansehra District Hospital.
On the outskirts of the Peshawar city, three people were injured when their house collapsed in Surezai, Badhber, on Friday afternoon. Rain continued in the city intermittently. Power supply to different remained suspended for several hours.
