KARACHI, May 10: Leader of the Opposition in the City Council Saeed Ghani announced on Thursday that the opposition had agreed to attend the May 14 budget session of the house without calling off its protest campaign against the April 26 incident in which opposition members had been roughed up by treasury members.

He made the announcement at a press conference held here on Thursday after a meeting between the treasury and opposition leaders to sort out the issue of the manhandling. Convener of the house Nasreen Jalil chaired the meeting.

Al-Khidmat Group leader Rafiq Ahmed, Khidmatgar Group leader Dr Ziauddin and Al-Khadim Group leader Abdul Razak accompanied Mr Ghani, who heads the Awam Dost Group.

Mr Ghani told newsmen that the opposition presented its case and demanded appropriate action against those treasury members who had been involved in the unfortunate incident. He said the opposition also demanded holding of a judicial inquiry into the affairs by a high court judge, as well as the withdrawal of the resolution adopted against the opposition in the April 26 session of the council.
