LARKANA, April 29: A four-year-old boy and his eight-year-old sister died of gastroenteritis in Adam Tunio village on the outskirts of Shahdadkot on Sunday.

Shoukat Ali and Akhtiar Khatoon were brought to a private clinic in serious condition with acute diarrhoea and frequent vomiting. The clinic discharged them after necessary treatment but they died the moment they reached their village.

Hospitals in Shahdadkot were reporting 25 to 30 patients of gastroenteritis on a daily basis. According to doctors use of contaminated and highly brackish water was to blame for the scourge in this season.

Ground water in Shahdadkot is highly brackish. It causes abdominal problems, which often lead to gastroenteritis.
