ISLAMABAD, April 26: Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi has directed power distribution companies (DISCOs) to make improvement in their systems to provide smooth electricity to consumers and avoid unannounced loadshedding.

He also directed them to serve consumers without any discrimination.

“The DISCOs should make all-out efforts to ensure that their transmission and distribution infrastructure should be in good condition and there was no unusual breakdown and overloading,” Mr Jatoi said.

He gave these instructions while chairing a high-level meeting with power distribution companies to review their load management and operational strategy during summer.

Chief executives of DISCOs, secretary water and power, officials of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and National Power Control Centre (NPCC) attended the meeting.

Mr Jatoi also decided to set up a monitoring system in the Water and Power Ministry to keep an eye on the demand-supply position in the country during the coming months and warned CEOs of DISCOs that any deviation of the policy and delinquency on their part would not be tolerated.

“Strict action will be taken against the violators of the policy,” he said.

“Those who will perform well will also be rewarded,” he added.

He stressed the need for energy conservation and asked DISCOs to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign in media to inform the consumers to save energy and avoid any wastage of electricity.—Staff Reporter
