HYDERABAD, April 22: Workers of a group in the People’s Party Parliamentarians, Thatta chapter, held a protest demonstration against the district leadership whom they called `burger group.’

The workers came from Sujawal via Mirpur Bathoro, Jhok Sharif, Shah Karim and Tando Mohammad Khan.

Their leaders vowed to continue their protests till Arbab Wazir Memon, (district president), Pir Rehmani (general secretary), Altaf Khawja, Babu Ghulam Hussain Memon and others were removed.

They slated the thrusting of new leadership in Thatta district, saying within 10 months it had destroyed the second strongest fort of the party after Larkana.

They said that the party was now divided into three groups.

They reminded the central and provincial leadership of the party that even the party founder, Z. A. Bhutto, had contested elections from Thatta and won.

They said the district leadership had sent misleading reports to provincial leadership that the organisational setup of the party was complete and that the PPP would win seven seats in general elections.

They said if the district leadership was not removed, it might become difficult for the party to even find agents for polling stations.

They said those leaders had been ignored who rendered immense sacrifices in the 1980s’ Movement for Restoration of Democracy in Sujawal.

They appealed to party chairperson Benazir Bhutto, Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Syed Qaim Ali Shah to take notice of the prevailing situation in Thatta district and save the party by removing unpopular leadership.

Workers were led by former MPA Shafiq Shah Bukhari and others.
