NAWABSHAH, April 16: District Nazim Ms Faryal Talpur on Monday imposed ban on pillion riding for a week and urged the chief minister to take notice of increasing rate of crimes in the district.

Talking to journalists after chairing a meeting on law and order situation in the district at her office she had asked Rangers to play their role along side police in maintaining law and order.

She said that the chief minister should direct Rangers to coordinate with the district government and collaborate with police. The SHOs should be posted on merit and without any political interference, she said.

Posting of officers from others districts or provinces would prove more beneficial for controlling crime, she said and added that with rapid increase in the population the city badly required a new police station.

Ms Talpur said that she would ask the Sindh government to provide manpower and vehicles to the investigation police and said that she has written a letter to the provincial police officer requesting him to establish a new police station on the Airport Road.

DPO Dr Ghulam Sarwar Jamali denied reports of increase in street crimes and said that the police were making concerted efforts for the recovery of kidnapped Ashok Kumar and Saleem Solangi. Major Jehangir of Indus Rangers, District Naib Nazim Abdul Haq Jamali and officials of law enforcing agencies also attended the meeting.

KILLED: A man was killed and two others sustained serious injuries when a speeding truck rammed into a trailer parked beside the National Highway near Qazi Ahmed on Monday.

Reports reaching here said that driver Ghulam Rasool, cleaner Abdul Rasheed and Ghulam Rabbani were moved to Nawabshah Medical College Hospital in serious condition where Ghulam Rabbani who was a resident of Faisalabad died.
