KARACHI, April 13: Residents of various localities on Friday complained of intermittent and prolonged power suspension. Complainants from PECHS, Hill Area, Mehmood Shah Bukhari Road, Mohammadi Masjid Road and Swat Charbagh Colony said that electricity played hide and seek in the localities.

A resident of Orangi Town Sector 11-1/2 Raja Tanveer Colony said power supply to the area was suspended at 10am and was restored at 12noon.

He said it was again suspended at 3pm and not restored till 8pm.

Reports about power suspension were also received from Jamshed Road, Federal B Area Blocks 7, 12, 14 and 17, Saddar, Light House, Clifton Blocks 4 and 5, Frontier Colony, Empress Market, Defence Khayaban-i-Mujahid, Zamzama and Haroonabad SITE Town. Complainants said that due to load-shedding they faced serious problems in getting water.

A source in the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) said that the main reason for load-shedding was mismanagement in the power utility.

He expressed hope that perhaps a change in the administration would help improve the situation.

The KESC spokesman, when contacted, said that Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) was supplying 500 megawatts electricity to KESC, while the total shortfall was 150mw.

He said an hour-and-a-half load-shedding was carried out which, he said, would be stopped as the shortfall was covered from WAPDA.
