KARACHI, April 13: Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil has said the city government is making coordinated efforts to improve the condition of government schools. She said non-governmental organisations are being extended all possible encouragement to bring education in commensuration with modern trends.

Talking to a delegation of CARE Foundation at her office on Friday, she said the non-governmental organisations, who had the spirit of working for raising the standard of education, should submit their proposals to the city government. The Foundation representatives told the naib nazim that they wanted to adopt various schools of Karachi to improve their condition and raise their education standard.

They said the Foundation had started its activities from Lahore in 1989 and now it is looking after 180 government schools with an enrolment of 1.14 lac students. They said after Lahore, they wanted to focus on schools in Karachi.

She appreciated their plans and informed that the city government was paying special attention on education and health sectors in Karachi. She said the rulers wanted to do away with double standards in education.—APP
