KARACHI, April 12: The Federal Urdu University senate on Thursday decided to appoint a high-powered committee comprising former vice-chancellor Dr Itefaq Ali, former registrar Dr Aslam Farukhi and retired justice Ghous Mohammad to look after the affairs of university.

At its meeting chaired by Aftab Ahmed Khan, the senate asked the in-charge vice-chancellor to follow the instructions of the new committee. The senate also decided to send the registrar, whose appointment was found illegal, on forced leave for three months. The senate stressed strict compliance of the HEC directives with regard to promotion of the university teachers.

The in-charge VC informed the senate that all the promotions and elevations to higher grades had been cancelled.

The senate also cancelled all permanent appointments in grade-17 and above and declared the same as ‘ad hoc appointments’ by the university’s selection board, and said the permanent vice-chancellor will finally take decisions in these matters.—PPI
