LAHORE, April 11: A one-man inquiry, on completion of a probe into March 17 clashes between police and lawyers, sent a detailed report and recommendations to the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

Justice Syed Zahid Husain of the Lahore High Court, held the inquiry on orders of the Supreme Court. The apex court had taken a suo motu notice of the clashes.

At least 50 people, including lawyers, journalists and policemen, had sustained injuries in clashes that had erupted when the police fired teargas shells inside the high court to restrain lawyers from coming out onto the The Mall.

The lawyers wanted to hold a protest rally against the suspension of the chief justice of Pakistan.

A court official said the judge had dispatched to the Supreme Court a 75-page report with recommendations.

The judge had initiated the inquiry on March 22 and concluded it on April 8. The judge had recorded statements of about 11 journalists, 15 lawyers and several police officials, including Lahore police chief (operations) SSP Aftab Cheema.
