Tense calm in Hangu

KOHAT, April 11: Traders in Hangu district closed their business on Wednesday after the arrival of the dead body of a man killed in clashes in Kurram Agency. The main bazaar was closed in protest against the killings. A tense calm prevailed in the area that witnessed one of the worst riots in 2006 after a suicide bombing during a mourners’ procession in which more than 46 people were killed.

In the evening the funeral of the victim of the Kurram Agency violence was offered by a large number of people.

The police said that so far the situation was under control and security personnel had accompanied the body to avert the occurrence of any untoward incident.

A police official said the FC had not been called but its platoons that were deployed during Muharram were still stationed in police stations had been put on alert since the eruption of sectarian clashes in the Kurram Agency to counter any situation of fighting spilling over to Hangu.

FC MAN KILLED: An official of the Frontier Corps, killed in a mudslide in the Khyber Agency, was buried in Karak district with full honours on Wednesday.

The body of Lance-Naik Habibullah was brought here from Peshawar and dispatched to his home town for burial.
