KARACHI, March 29: The education of more than a hundred girls came to a sudden halt when arts and commerce classes in a women’s college were suddenly stopped. As a result, the girls are in a quandary. Sources in the newly established Government College for Women in Sector 11-I, North Karachi said the college principal, using her powers appointed ad-hoc teachers for the college and began intermediate classes in arts, commerce and science.

Eight teachers appointed to teach the arts and commerce classes were dismissed a couple of months ago without citing any reason. The girls protested to the college administration that their studies were affected. Instead of appointing teachers, the college administration dismissed the remaining teachers and stopped holding classes telling students to collect their admit cards before their examination schedule from the college.

The affected girls are in a quandary as the examinations are approaching fast and the classes are not being held. They staged many protests in front of college administration block and the town nazim’s office but got no response. They wrote to the education department authorities concerned but got no hearing.

They have now appealed to the Sindh education minister to look into the matter and solve their problem.
