HYDERABAD, March 28: The Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) has rejected the Trade Organisations Ordinance 2006 and called for carrying out amendments to the law in consultation with traders and industrialists.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday HCCI President Yousuf Suleman, Vice-President Mohammad Amin Ansari and office-bearer Haji Mohammad Yaqoob said that the chamber supported the stand taken by the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the law.

They criticised the chambers which were opposing the federation and charged they had vested interests and wanted to abolish smaller chambers of the province.

They said that the smaller chambers were rendering great service for the development of small and medium enterprises and quoted the chambers of Mirpurkhas, Dadu, Khairpur, Thatta and Larkana.

They pointed out lacuna in the ordinance and said for example it required chambers to fulfil less than 26 formalities to be able to apply for licence, which was next to impossible.
