SRINAGAR, March 20: Six suspected Kashmiri militants and two Indian soldiers, one of them an officer, were killed during two gunbattles in Indian-administered Kashmir, police said on Tuesday. In the first clash, four militants and two soldiers were killed.

“The fighting erupted late Monday when counter-insurgency police and army troops raided a hideout in Kupwara district,” a police spokesman said.

He said an army captain and a soldier were hurt early on in the encounter. “The injured later died in a hospital.”—AFP
