KASUR, March 20: Sutlej Rangers claimed on Tuesday to have killed a smuggler and arrested two others during an encounter near Khalid check post, Khudian and recovered narcotics, illegal weapons and other contraband from their possession.

Reports said Muhammad Ramzan of Ghazi Road, Lahore, Shaukat Ali of Nejabat village, and Zakria of Sheikh Sahd Kaloo village were allegedly trying to cross the border near Khalid check post when the rangers, including DSP Amanullah, intercepted them. During a crossfire, Zakria was killed on the spot while Shaukat and Ramzan sustained serious injuries and were rushed to DHQ hospital. Ramzan was referred to Lahore General Hospital owing to his critical condition.

Rangers claimed to have seized 23kg purified heroin worth over Rs10 million, illicit arms and other contraband from their possession.
