SUKKUR, Feb 22: Some 20 dacoits armed with hand grenades and other automatic weapons on Wednesday night raided the village Abdul Hai Khoso and killed a villager in the jurisdiction of Bakshapur police station.

They threw hand grenades on the houses in the village which caused panic among the people and taking advantage of the situation they kidnapped two men, Noor Mohammad Khoso and Raja Moinuddin, and fled.

Later, Raja Moinuddin offered resistance and was killed by the decoits on the spot. The dacoits took away with them Noor Mohammad Khoso towards Balochistan.

The police of the three provinces who had established check posts to monitor the movement of dacoits failed to stop them on the border area although police sources said that the decoits fled towards Balochistan.

Meanwhile, law and order situation in upper Sindh has become alarming just two days before Eid-ul-Azha.

A number of the incidents of crimes reported in Jacobabad, Khairpur and other parts of the interior of Sindh.

The dacoits blocked the National Highway between on Wednesday night, near Rasoolababd (Hingorja), and looted dozens of trucks and bus passengers and deprived the passengers of their cash, wrist watches and other valuables.

The police said that most of the victims were cattle head dealers who were coming after selling their animals.

A landlord of village Khokhar, near Piryaloi, Mohammad Baqa Kalhoro, was gunned down by armed dacoits when he tried to resist their bid to snatch his motorcycle.

RECOVERED: Four men, Liaqat Ali Khalidi, Hafiz Nazeer Ahmed Bhutto, Baqar Ali Domki and Maherullah Chandio, who were kidnapped on Feb 14, 17, and 19, 2002 from Jacobabad, respectively, have been recovered.

The recovery was the result of the Anti-Dacoits operation launched in Sukkur Region in recent days. Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, deputy Inspector general of police (Operations) Sukkur, briefed the newsmen about the recovery here on Thursday.

Two kidnappers were also arrested.
